If you've bought a cut tree the time will sadly come to say goodbye to it. Cut Christmas trees are a sustainable product, but it's important to dispose of them in a responsible way to minimise the environmental impact. Happily there are lots of options for disposing of your tree, but these do differ a bit across the councils.
The main options are:
Council collections - some councils will collect trees, some won't, and some will only for those who have a garden collection.
Charity collections - in lots of areas there are charity-run collection services that raise funds for local good causes. More on this below!
Private waste disposal companies.
We're delighted to support national charity Just Helping who partner with charities across the country and recycle real Christmas trees. In 2024, they collected and recycled 65,000 trees and raised £1.18 million for local charities and community projects. Please check their website to see if there’s a collection service in your area.
