Recycling options

Brighton & Hove City Council create various collection points across the city, including at the Level, Preston Park (north east corner), Hollingbury Park, Hove Lawns, Hove Park and more. There are also charity-run collections that will collect your tree from your doorstep for a small donation, raising funds for local hospices (The Martlets and Chestnut Tree House). If you order your tree from us, we’ll email you with your collection options after Christmas.

Christmas in Brighton

Brighton’s a wonderful city to visit at any time – and not just for the seaside. The city is known for it’s bohemian culture, and there’s lots going on for a relatively small (and walkable) place. But November and December are particularly nice times to visit, with the streets lined with Christmas lights and amazing independent coffee spots around every turn to grab a winter warmer. Here’s our top tips:

  1. Shop ’til you drop. Avoid the crowds at Churchill Square and head into North Laine for independent shops aplenty – the perfect place to scoop up some Christmas presents that are a little bit different.
  2. Royal Pavilion Ice Rink: Each winter, an ice skating rink is set up beside the Royal Pavilion, allowing visitors to skate with the historic (and oh-so-quirky) building as a backdrop.
  3. Burning the Clocks on December 21st is Brighton’s way of celebrating the year’s shortest day. Residents parade with handcrafted lanterns, ending in a lively beach bonfire symbolising the coming end of the year.

Eye on the markets

Brighton doesn’t have a huge Christmas market, but there’s usually a mini one in Jubilee Square. For the past couple of years there’s been a market in Victoria Gardens, but the format is changing from 2023 with the council taking on the planning, so watch this space. One Garden, in Stanmer Park, also hosts a Christmas market.

Did you know..?

If you watch the classic Christmas short film "The Snowman", you'll spot some Brighton landmarks, including the South Downs, the Pavilion and the Palace Pier. Author and illustrator Raymond Briggs was an East Sussex local.
